As the holy month of Ramadan continues, with increased pressure on delivery riders due to an increase in orders, several companies have rolled out initiatives to offer much-needed support.
A report by Ipsos UAE, shows that there is up to a 20 percent increase in food delivery during Ramadan, with 9 out of 10 people ordering.
Yazan Aburaqabeh, head of operations at Deliveroo said: “Delivery riders are a key part of our UAE community and every year during this important time, we aim to make sure their iftars are taken care of while they continue to do incredible work across the country,” he said.
The managing director at talabat UAE, Tatiana Rahal, echoed the sentiment, encouraging the public to be supportive. “This Ramadan, I would like to remind the community to be more patient and mindful of smaller vehicles sharing the roads with them, as well as thank them for their patience during iftar and rush hours while riders break their fast or drive safely to deliver their orders,” she said.
Deliveroo UAE announced an initiative to bring together a number of restaurants across the country to support riders during Ramadan. Thirty restaurants in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman are currently participating by offering iftar meals, discounts and vouchers to riders. “This Ramadan, we are overwhelmed by the number of restaurant partners who want to recognise those who dedicate themselves to keeping the city fed,” said Aburaqabeh.
Some of the participating restaurants are:
Five Guys, Dunkin’, Costa, My Govinda’s, Pret A Manger, and Pitfire Pizza. Riders can also receive up to 50% discount on menu items from select outlets in Dubai including Sheikh Al Karak, Daal Chawal Restaurant, Break Time Bistro, Green Earth Cafe, Basatta Street Food, Miracolo Restaurant, Senor Gonzales, Meatology Food Truck, Drip Burger, Taghmesa, Khair Zaman Cafeteria, Yellow Cab Pizza, and Beit Elzaytoun. Abu Dhabi and Ajman restaurants offering discounted iftar meals include Healthy Bowl Restaurant, Vitaminateland, Deccan Delight Restaurant, Al Rumailah, and Chai Square. Homegrown brand, Soule Soup, will be giving away a special edition lentil soup to every rider who collects an order from their outlet.
Deliveroo is also dedicating its ‘Roo Vans’ to distribute meals to riders across the UAE. Riders can collect an iftar meal every week between 5 PM and 7 PM across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah. Over 10 thousand packages of biscuits and juices will also be made available to agency riders from all Editions sites throughout the month.
Along with offering iftar meals, driver wellness is another element that both talabat and Deliveroo are paying extra care to over Ramadan.
Rahal said that rider safety and wellbeing were of “utmost importance” for talabat. “We regularly explore and launch dedicated rider initiatives and trainings during the year, to enhance their experience, whether on or off the roads. However, our focus, above all, remains to help foster a culture of road safety, which in fact starts with each one of us. It is through collective effort between the public and private sectors, as well as the community, that we will be able to raise the most awareness and increase adoption of positive road behaviour.“
In collaboration with governmental entities and relevant internal and external stakeholders, talabat UAE launched several initiatives, including offering iftar meals, partnerships with restaurants, and offering dates and water to the riders.
Some of the other measures being undertaken by talabat are:
To alleviate some of the pressure during peak times, in-app awareness messages are being activated to remind customers to plan their orders ahead of iftar time. In addition to the above, talabat UAE collaborates with third party logistics service providers who employ and manage rider fleets to ensure that riders are provided with the tools and resources to increase their safety awareness and knowledge.
