Chef Andy Cuthbert elected as president of WorldChefs

In the presidential election held in Singapore alongside Worldchefs Congress & Expo 2024, Cuthbert was voted in as the new president in a direct contest against Manjit Singh Gill, president of Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA).

Andy Cuthbert has been elected as president of the WorldChefs (World Association of Chefs Societies), the most influential body of professional chefs of the world. He will succeed Thomas Gugler, who led the Worldchefs’ for the last 8 years as its president.

Cuthbert, president of the Emirates Culinary Guild, got elected in a straight and close contest with Manjit Singh Gill, president of Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA) which was held on the sidelines of the Worldchefs Congress & Expo in Singapore.

It is the first time in the history of WorldChefs that a non-American chef has got elected as president of the global body.

Cuthbert started his career as an apprentice chef in Melbourne in Australia in 1981 worked as sous chef in London Gatwick Hilton for a few years before joining Hilton Dubai as an executive chef in 1992. He is currently the GM at Jumeirah Group Dubai.

He played a key role in setting up a culinary guild for Emirates and joined the WorldChefs in 1994. In his long association with the WorldChefs, Cuthbert has held responsibilities like the sergeant in arms at WorldChefs Congress in Dubai in 2008 and chairman of the Worldchefs Congress and organiser of the Congress in Abu Dhabi in 2022.

Chefs associations of 105 countries are part of the WorldChefs and each country has one vote in the presidential election. The presidency is held for a 4-year term.
